Introducing Dr. Storm

Dr. Stormy ‘Storm’ Sweitzer is the founder of The Illuminated Futures Project™ and has spent over 25 years helping organizations — from global corporations to community-based nonprofits — navigate change, develop leadership capacity, and imagine more desirable futures.
She is a certified strategic foresight practitioner and executive coach with deep roots in organizational behavior, leadership development, human-centered design, and technology integration. She began her career as an NGO development consultant in the former Soviet Union during a period of profound upheaval — an experience that shaped everything that followed: a belief that even the most difficult transitions can be navigated toward something better, and that the capacity to imagine that better future is itself a skill worth building.
Storm speaks and writes on wonder, imagination, the futures of creativity, care, relationality, and emerging technology. She holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University, an MPH from Emory University, and an MBA and degrees in Russian Language & Literature and Economics from the University of Utah. She lives and works in Cleveland, OH.
Dr. Stormy ‘Storm’ Sweitzer is the founder of The Illuminated Futures Project™ — a strategic possibility advisory helping organizations and the people within them see and shape the future.
She began her career as a researcher and NGO Development Consultant in the former Soviet Union, arriving during a period of profound political, economic, and social upheaval. Watching communities caught within the borders navigate the collapse of one world and the uncertain emergence of another left a lasting impression: that collectives have a remarkable capacity to draw on the past, imagine forward, and build something more hopeful — if they have the tools, the space, and the belief that it’s possible. That conviction has animated her work ever since.
In the over two decades since, Storm has led national initiatives in digital transformation, patient safety, and systems change in healthcare; worked with leaders and teams to improve intra- and interpersonal dynamics; founded ventures at the intersection of technology and education; and worked with global corporations, humanitarian organizations, health and academic institutions, government agencies, nonprofits, and community groups across the US and abroad — such as Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and former Soviet countries including Moldova and Armenia. The through-line across all of it: helping people and organizations develop the capacity to lead, adapt, and imagine their way through uncertainty.
She is a certified strategic foresight practitioner and executive coach, with extensive training in human-centered design, organizational development, teamwork science, and behavioral and social science. Her research focuses on wonder, inclusion, identity, and the role of imagination in enabling new possibilities — work she brings directly into her consulting, coaching, and facilitation practice.
Storm holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University, an MPH from Emory University, and an MBA and undergraduate degrees in Russian Language & Literature and Economics from the University of Utah. Originally from Utah, she now calls Cleveland, OH home — where she is deeply rooted in participatory arts as a form of collective imagination in practice.
“I guarantee you’ve never met anyone quite like Stormy. She brings creativity, passion and expertise to her work, and combines right-brained, big-picture thinking with left-brained process and execution in a style unmatched in my experience.”
